About…

Kymin Community Gardens came about after The Friends of The Kymin and Gwyrddio Penarth Greening planted a community orchard at The Kymin in early 2021.

In January 2022, we received a food growing garden pack from the Keep Wales Tidy ‘Local Places for Nature’ scheme. You can see the raised beds now installed on the lower boule court, along with two potting tables and composter.

We host regular events and workshops at The Kymin as part of our year-long ‘Growing Together ~ Grow-along’ project, kindly supported by the National Lottery Community fund ‘Together for Our Planet’ funding.

To find out what we are doing, follow us on all the usual social media, search for ‘Penarth Growing Community’, or sign up to receive our monthly events and activities email below.

If you’d like to read the full story of the development of the project, see Sally’s blog below.

What you’ll find…

Community Orchard – 15 fruit trees, apples, pears, plum, including a range of local heritage varieties.

Meadow Management – we are working to develop the top meadow area to encourage more native plants. This includes mowing, and now maybe scything, and raking. Plus plant surveys.

Wildflower turf – planted on the bend of the road near the Seabank apartments, just outside the main entrance to The Kymin.

Raised beds on the lower boule court – at the moment we have a range of perennial herbs, annual leaves that’ll grow in the shade and other delights, including raspberries…. have a look and harvest some fresh herbs for your supper on the way home.

Lots of plants!

A Tiny Food Forest – we are planting a range of edible fruit bushes and other plants around the two pear trees by the pagoda, to make a tiny example of a guild, the kind we find in a food forest.

We have lots of ideas for other things to develop, including creating more growing space on the lower boule court.

If you’d like to get involved, sign up for the monthly email above to learn about what’s happening, when.
